The “New York Yankees” (also known as the “Yankees”) is a professional American baseball team situated in the Bronx area of New York City, the team is part of the East Division, which plays in the American League (AL)of the Major League Baseball (MLB Tickets). The team is one of the two MLB clubs based in the New York City, the other one is the New York Mets.
The team was founded in the year 1901 in Baltimore, Maryland as one of the eight charter franchises. It was first named as the Baltimore Orioles, which later moved to New York City in the year 1903 and was renamed itself as the New York Highlanders. The New York Highlanders changed its name into “New York Yankees” in the year 2013, by which the name has become the last and the final name of the team.
Under the management of Yankee, LLC, the team is owned and controlled by the family of George Steinbrenner, who bought the franchise in the year 1973. The team used to play their home games at the Yankee Stadium from the year 1923 up to 1973 and 1976 to 2008. After a year, the team moved to play their home games at the new ballpark called Yankee Stadium, after the last venue had been closed.
