The “New York Mets” is a professional American baseball team situated in the area of Queens, New York City. The team is part of the East Division, which plays in the National League (NL) of the Major League Baseball (MLB Tickets). The team is one of the two Major League Baseball (MLB) teams placed in New York City, the other one is the New York Yankees.

Founded in the year 1962, the team was established as part of the league’s first line of expansion teams. The franchise was granted as a replacement for the New York’s defunct National League teams, the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Giants.

The New York Mets play their home games at the Citi Field since the year 2009. Prior to Citi Field, the team used to play in the Polo Grounds during the 1962 and 1963 seasons and at the Shea Stadium from the year 1964 until 2008.

At the time of the team’s inaugural season dated back in the year 1962, the New York Mets finished with a record of 40-120. This was the worst regular season recorded from the time Major League Baseball (MLB) went to a 162-game schedule, by which two out of 162 were canceled. The misfortune of their baseball gaming career continued to run until the 1969 World Series, in fact, the team never had a spot higher than the second to the last place.

The team played during the 1969 Major League Baseball (MLB) World Series Championships and won against the Baltimore Orioles. The 1969 World Series was then considered as one of the biggest affronts in the World Series history, when the New York Mets defeated the Baltimore Orioles after the actualities that the Mets were known for their worst records and the Orioles for their steady reputation in the MBL.

From there, the Mets had played in three additional World Series Championships and lost against the Oakland Athletics (1973), the Boston Red Sox (1986) and the New York Yankees (2000). Due to their consecutive losses in the World Series the prior years, the team only managed to advance in one playoff appearance dated year 2006 and lost against the ultimate champions, the St. Louis Cardinals.

In the 2007 and 2008 seasons, the New York Mets missed the playoffs with setbacks on the last days of the season. After the two losing seasons, the conquests continued from year to year. In 2010, the team hired Sandy Alderson as the new general manager and Terry Collins as the new manager.

Although setbacks were quiet too close to the team, the Mets coped for their place in the MBL the following years. The team’s colors are blue and orange, originally picked to give honor to the city’s National League baseball teams, the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Giants. The colors Blue and Orange are also seen as colors of New York City, as colors can be seen on the NYC flag. The current team captain of the New York Mets is David Wright, who has just been appointed last 2013.
