The “Washington Wizards” is a team situated in Washington D.C, United States. The team is a member of the Southeast Division that plays in the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Verizon Center located near the Chinatown is where the team usually plays their home games.
In 1961, the team (currently known as the Wizards) started playing as the Chicago Packers. The Packers were the ever first modern expansion team in the history of NBA, in 1962; the team was renamed as the Chicago Zephyrs.
The team was again renamed as the Baltimore Bullets after the franchise was relocated to Baltimore, Maryland. The name “Baltimore Bullets” was ideally taken out from a 1940s-1950s Baltimore Bullets BAA/NBA where they had their home games played at the Baltimore Civic Center.
After the 1964 and 1965 NBA season, the Wizards got highlighted after trading their players Rod Thorn, Terry Dischinger and Don Kojis to Detroit Piston’s players Don Ohl, Bailey Howell, Wali Jones and Bob Ferry. Fortunately, the trade turned out well under Bailey Howell’s leadership who led the team to their first NBA playoffs.
From the year 1965 until 1978, majority of the team’s records was a success. However, just all teams in the leagues of the NBA, the team has experienced their own downside story during the years 1979 until 1988 where they barely reach the playoffs because of the player’s physical injuries and growth of age.
In the year 1995, the Bullets were officially renamed as the Washington Wizards under the ownership of Abe Pollin. The early years of the newly renamed Wizards appeared to be quiet unsuccessful.
For the record, the team got Michael Jordan in the years 2001, 2002 and 2003; his arrival led the team to an 18-win improvement compared to the prior seasons. Jordan’s appearance didn’t last for a long span of time due to some issues in between Jordan and the team.
His departure didn’t affect the team’s progress through the years; in fact, the team has showed a lot of improvements associated with some awards and winnings until present times. Just this April 2, 2014, the Wizards won against their battle with the Bulls, Bulls were defeated by the Wizards for 6th time.
