The “Philadelphia 76ers” (also known as the Sixers) is a team situated in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The team is part in the Atlantic Division of Western Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Philadelphia 76ers was originally known as the Syracuse Nationals dated back in the year 1946. The Sixers’ first decades were good, in fact, they are considered as one the oldest NBA franchises that survived the league.
At the time of their NBL years, Syracuse Nationals (former name of Philadelphia Sixers) had deep struggles, in fact, during the 1947 and1948 season, they only got the 5th place with a 24-36 record. However, the team recovered after head coach Dolph Scayes arrived and took the lead, for the first time, the Nationals finally hit a record of 41-22.
Like most of the other teams, the Syracuse Nationals played at NBL for one main reason, they wanted to play in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and they knew at the time that NBA was looking for seven teams, luckily, the Nationals were one of the seven teams absorbed by Basketball Association of America to form the NBA.
Together with the other NBA histories, the history of Sixers was also one of the interesting NBA history. In the year 1955, the team won three frequent NBA championships with the greatest players of NBA such as Julius Erving, Moses Malone, Allen Iverson, Charles Barkley and William Chamberlain.
During the years 1966 and 1967, Sixer’s second title arrived under Chamberlain’s. After the 1967’s victory, the third title came during the 1982 and 1983 season, which was led by Moses Malone and Julius Erving. After the two winning titles, Philadelphia 76ers were back in the year 2001 NBA finals led by Iverson. At the time, the Sixers only one overtime game, but they have lost the next four games against San Antonio Spurs. By their misfortune, the Sixers had one of the worst franchise records in the history as they have lost 26 frequent games in the year 2013 until 2014.
