The “New York Knicks” is a team situated in New York City, New York. The team is popularly known as the Knicks and is also a member of the Atlantic Division that plays in the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

In the year 1946, the team was formally established by Ned Rish, the Knicks was also one of the founding members of the Basketball Association of America (BAA) which later then became a member of the National Basketball Association (NBA) after joining the opposing National Basketball League (NBL) after 3 years.

The Knicks was one of the two NBA teams which remained located on its original city, the team usually plays their home games at the Madison Square Garden situated on the upper Pennsylvania Station in the area of Manhattan.

Unlike most of the NBA teams, New York Knicks were successful during on its early years of their basketball career, thus, they were one of the best competitors in NBA under the coaching of Joe Lapchick. In the year 1950, the Knicks appeared on the NBA finals thrice without putting much effort during the playoffs. After 6 years, Lapchick resigned as their head coach and the team started to weaken.

However, Knicks recovered in the late 1960s when coach Red Holzman took the lead. Since Holzman’s arrival, the team has had several winnings until 1980s, but failed to enter into the NBA finals.

By the early 1990s, the playoffs of the team were led by Patrick Ewing which was also remembered as the battles among other Hall of Famers from other NBA teams like Regie Miller’s Indiana Pacers, Alonzo Mourning’s Miami Heat and Jordan’s Chicago Bulls. At the time, the Knicks became popularly known with their great defense tactics under Pat Riley’s coaching.

Even for a fact that Knicks was a consistent successor during 1990s, they still failed to attain an NBA championship within their two NBA finals appearance. The team experienced few struggles in getting back to their prior glory in the year 2000, but upon reaching the years 2012 and 2013, they successfully won their first division title after 19 years. It is reported by Forbes that Knicks’worth ranges around $1.4 billion and is considered as the most valued NBA team.
