The “Colorado Rockies” is a professional American baseball team situated in Denver, Colorado. The team is part of the West Division, which plays in the National League (NL) of the Major League Baseball (MLB Tickets). Recently, the Rockies are managed by Walt Weiss and they are currently playing their home games at the Coors Field.

Although Denver had long been a target of putting an expansion franchise from the National League, the attempts still turned out unsuccessful. After several attempts, an expansion franchise was finally awarded in the year 1991 as part of the Major League Baseball’s two-team expansions.

The franchise was granted to an ownership group led by John Antonucci and Michael I. Monus, the leaders of the group picked the name “Rockies” for a reason that Denver is situated near the Rocky Mountains, which can be seen in the team’s logo.

By great misfortune, the team’s owners Antonucci and Monus were forced to leave after Monus’ reputation was destroyed due to a financial scandal in the year 1992. Because of this, Jerry McMorris, who owns a big trucking business, eventually came to save the franchise.

After McMorris saved the franchise, the Rockies were permitted to play for the 1993 season. In 1993, the team has had their first two seasons played at the Mile High Stadium along with the National Football League (NFL) Denver Broncos. During the same year, the team started to play as part of the Western Division of the National League (NL).

In the year 1995, the Rockies moved to play its 1995 Major League Baseball (MLB) season in the newly constructed Coors Field, which was intentionally completed for the team. The Coors Field is also the current home venue of the team. The Rockies have advanced to the Major League Baseball postseason thrice as the National League’s wild card team.

The team’s worst records occurred in the years 1995 and 2009, during these years, the Colorado Rockies were eliminated in most rounds of their MLB playoffs. In the year 2007, the team had advanced to the World Series championship, but unfortunately lost the game against the Boston Red Sox.

The latest spring training venue of the Rockies is the Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, located inĀ  Scottsdale, Arizona. The Salt River Fields had been launched last March of the year 2011 and is currently shared with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The team’s most notable players in the league’s history were Larry Walker and Matt Holiday. Larry Walker was the National League’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 1997 and Matt Holiday was the NLCS Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the year 2007. The Rockies’ uniform colors are black, purple and white. The team has had three playoff appearances dated back in the years 1995, 2007 and 2009.

For the past spanning years, the Rockies have had several owners such as Linda G. Alvarado (Alvarado Construction, INC), Marne Obernauer, Jr. (Beverage Distributors Corp.), Clear Channel Communications, Denver Newspaper Agency, Fox, SAMT Sports 2013 LLC, and Dick and Charlie Monfort (latest).
