The “Calgary Flames” is a professional ice hockey team situated in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The team is part of the Pacific Division that plays in the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). Near the city of Calgary, the existence of rivalry was known as the Battle of Alberta where most games in between teams are often fiery and intense. For the record, the team ranked as third major professional ice hockey team in Calgary next to the Calgary Tigers and Calgary Cowboys. Calgary Flames had a total of two franchises in Alberta, one is the NHL franchise and the other one is the Edmonton Oilers.
In Atlanta, Georgia, the team was discovered in the year 1972 and was named as the Atlanta Flames, after 8 years, the team moved to Calgary where they got their official name “Calgary Flames”. The Flames’ first arena where they have played their first three seasons was at the Stampede Coral, after the three seasons, the team moved to the Scotiabank Saddledome (known as the Olympic Saddledome) where they play their home games until present times.
The Flames were recognized as the first Calgary team in the season 1985-1986 to play for the Stanley Cup along with the Calgary Tigers. The Flames won their first and only championship during the season 1988-1999. In the 2004 Stanley Cup, the team ran and at the time when the Flames ran for the 2004 Stanley Cup, they have upsurge the Red Mile. By the year 2011, they won the second Heritage Classic Outdoor game.
For how many years, the Flames have achieved much in the history of NHL. In fact, the Flames were awarded two President’s trophies, they won five division championships and 9 players coming from their team were inaugurated in the Hockey Hall of Fame. At the time, Jarome Iginla was the team’s leader in all games played, Iginla won twice of the Maurice Richard Trophy as the top goal scorer.
In recent times, the Flames own a total of three franchises namely the Calgary Hitmen, the Calgary Roughnecks and the Calgary Stampeders. The team has one foundation named Flames Foundation, where they were able to donate a total of $32 million since the year of their franchise.
